Missions Work

Welcome to the "Missions Expeditions" page of the Missions Hotline. We do exciting missions trips to Africa! These trips involve missions work with peoples in rural areas - people who usually need a lot of help. So your participation can make a real difference! We also do a wildlife safari, usually after we complete the missions phase of the project. These safari's are always a terrific experience ... yes you will see African animals close up!! The picture here shows us visiting Tsavo Park in Kenya. This particular park is the home of the famous "Simba Marara" lions. These are the biggest and most powerful lions in East Africa. The movie "Ghosts in the Darkness" was based on events at Tsavo (though it was not filmed inside the park itself). During our wildlife safari's we are accompanied by local African guides or park rangers. You will find these trips to be a great adventure - and lots of fun! At the same time, we are also sincere in serving God during our missions work. It is possible to do both things ... effective missions projects and real fun :-)

Emphasis on Safety

Our missions trips are characterized by two main issues: service and safety. We aim to serve God during these trips by making a real contribution to the people we visit - spiritually and practically. We also place a high emphasis on personal safety during our trips. We believe that safety is particularly important because people on short-term trips cannot take the same risks as "professional" missionaries. After a trip is over, folks must return back to work or college ... there's not much time for illness or injuries.

The Missions Hotline has an excellent safety record. We have now completed several missions trips to remote areas of Africa. Consider the following facts:

i) No person has ever been the victim of a crime during our trips (even a minor crime).

ii) No person has been involved in any serious accident, including car accidents.

iii) No person has contracted any serious disease, such as malaria, AIDS, yellow fever etc.

We are grateful to God for His blessings during our trips. We also take a professional attitude in the way that the trips are planned.

How does this affect you? Very simply - if you want the advantage of safety, you have to give up your own independence. You need to be aware that the Missions Hotline has a strict set of rules that govern our trips. If you decide to come on one of our missions expeditions, we expect you to obey these rules - no questions asked. Just like the Army, we've got rules and we expect you to follow them. The advantage you get by following our trip format is that you can have an adventure ... and return home safely. But we need to point out that these trips are not for everyone. If you are the kind of person who wants to "do your own thing", or you believe you are "better than the rules" then don't come! Sorry if this shocks you. But the Missions Hotline is looking for people who want to be genuine team members, and part of the team commitment is that you obey the rules that govern the whole team.

If after reading this page you feel that you do want to serve God overseas, that you would like to be a part of an exciting adventure, and that you are prepared to come with a humble and obedient spirit, then we invite you to get in touch with us!

Kenya
Kenya is a democracy, it is predominantly Christian, and it is reasonably safe for travel (provided you take the right precautions). This makes Kenya an attractive destination for mission work. It's a very good opportunity if you're going to Africa for the first time. There's lots to learn about African culture and this Kenya trip will get you started.

Masailand
The Missions Hotline has an on-going project with the Masai people in the Rift Valley of Kenya. We started this project in 1995. We're now looking for a few good people (or churches) to join us in this work. We think this is a great opportunity. First of all, the Masai are a fascinating people. You may remember them as the warriors of Africa who spear lions as a test of courage. The Masai have retained many of their traditional customs. Living with the Masai presents great insights into the ways of old. Secondly, although there are some churches in the Masailand, many of the Masai are still an unreached people. Much evangelism needs to be done - yet Christianity is rapidly catching on. This means your church has the opportunity to really make a difference.

And finally, the Missions Hotline can make this project exciting! You will get a real taste of Africa if you take on this project. The people ... the animals ... the whole "African atmosphere". We can help with the planning, logistics and the languages. After all, we've been there before! Contact us if you're interested in Kenya and the Masai.

Namibia and Botswana
We are hoping to get missions work going in the southern African countries of Namibia and Botswana. This will happen very soon ... perhaps the summer of 2003. These trips will be particularly attractive for families who want to go to Africa on a "missions safari" - the trips will be planned towards a very high level of safety and enjoyment. Yes ... you can still experience wonderful African cultures. And yes - especially - you will still be able to do a wild animal safari!
Please contact us very soon if you are interested in our missions safari to Namibia/Botswana. If your church has an interest, please let us know.
